I've always viewed God's laws with regard to the "maturity" of relevant societies.
The OT was God treating us like kids. "Don't do this" and "Don't do that". It was very prescriptive, no matter which law you are talking about.
The NT is how God treats adults. Does he need to tell us to not call him names? No. Does he need to say "don't steal"? No. When is the last time MY mother said these things?
Instead, he says, "treat me like you love me. Treat your neighbors like you love them.
So: You wouldn't steal. You wouldn't bear false witness, you wouldn't...
The law has moved from educating us to guiding us. Referencing old law is almost meaningless (yes, even homosexuality and eating pork) because they don't tie into the concept of "let love be your guide".
