If “Thoughts and Prayers” Statements Piss You Off
Then maybe you should understand why they really do help
It is amazing that, when confronted with a tragedy like a school shooting, small-minded people lash out at the “we’ll send our thoughts and prayers” crowd rather than at the shooter.
My Facebook feed took less than a day for three people close to me to post some form of “Fuck off with your ‘thoughts and prayers’,” such as this gem:
I can understand why. In their ignorance they think Christians are holding up their prayers to God and that is the end of it.
“Dear God, who in your infinite wisdom allowed this to happen in the first place, can You please re-think your strategy?”

“Thoughts and prayers” isn’t an empty gesture. It’s also not a message for you. Let me explain why.
